What do you enjoy most about your career in foodservice?

I love the energy of it! Every day is different and you have to have your head in the game to meet the ongoing challenges that pop up. It forces you to find solutions to problems that you never considered, pushes you physically and intellectually and shows you what you are made of and also allows you to share in the growth and success of others.

Tell us about your biggest career accomplishment:.

There was a moment when I was up and coming when I was unsure about my ability to take on a larger role. I carried a lot of doubt, but took the job anyway. It was 12 months after that I looked back and realized that I had not only made it through, but had made a significant impact on the operation as well. That was pivotal for me as it fueled my confidence that I could achieve what I set my mind to.

How is your segment making a difference for the foodservice industry?

I always look at hotels as setting the tone for the consumer. What we show them in our meetings/events and restaurants/lounges turns into items that they often search out for themselves. Where we are making a difference is in the awareness of the food system, particularly sustainability, honoring and showcasing local as well as emphasizing healthful options.

What advice do you have for someone new to the foodservice industry?

You better love it because it can be unforgiving.

What does being an IFMA Silver Plate recipient mean to you?

To be recognized by the industry is humbling. It means a lot to know that those that I have worked with over time think enough of me to nominate me for recognition. There is no better compliment than to receive recognition from those that are out there side by side with you daily making it happen. I am truly grateful.
