IFMA hosted the annual Navy Foodservice Ashore Solutions Conference, an enterprise-wide training opportunity for MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) foodservice professionals June 12-15 at Navy Base Point Loma in San Diego, California.

Attended by nearly 90 IFMA members and 100+ Navy Foodservice personnel from around the globe, IFMA members had seven different meal occasions to showcase their food offerings, along with guest speakers from Salsarita’s, Synergy Restaurant Consultants, The Kruse Company and Stone Brewery.

"It is excellent, first from the perspective of transparency of information. Throughout the three days of meetings, all, including the manufacturers, are invited to go to each of the many informative industry meetings. This gives all of us a better understanding of this business and how to work more effectively within it,” said Lisa Kermizis-Abraham, Vice President of National Accounts NA at Bigelow Tea. “Additionally it offered Bigelow Tea the unique occasion to meet and discuss opportunities with the many top level decision makers at CNIC & MWR agency's with in the Navy."

Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) branch managers brought IFMA members and others up-to-date on their latest initiatives and needs in the Food and Beverage field and in foodservice in the bowling, golf and movie programs. Navy personnel also had the opportunity to participate in workshops addressing opportunities in menu strategy, POS software, leadership, Human Resources and more.

"This is the best opportunity for the manufacturing community to meet with this agency group. It is the only time of year both groups come together," said Steve Hammel, Navy Region Southwest Dining Services Program Manager.

In addition, the Navy provided exclusive access to various base tours, areas that civilians would never have the opportunity of touring. This year’s tours included the Naval Air Station on North Island – Home of Naval Aviation, a Nuclear Submarine, and the Navy Seals Training Facility.

The four-day program provided a relaxed environment to interact with current and prospective customers, build important relationships and secure significant business opportunities.
