Hannah Peterman is a 2017 International Gold & Silver Plate Society stipend recipient. She attends the Kansas State University and is majoring in Dietetics. Find out what she had to say when we asked her a few questions about her foodservice stipend and future career.

What is your major & what made you decide on it?
I chose to major in Dietetics because I love the interaction with people and the emphasis on science and nutrition.

How has your stipend enabled you to pursue a career in foodservice?

What was your first job in foodservice?
My first job in foodservice was as a management intern at Derby Dining Center.

What would you say is your "dream job" after you graduate?

What have you learned that you will apply to a career in foodservice?
I have learned about meal ratios, food safety, and management principles that I know I can apply in many ways throughout my career.

What are some of the challenges students like you face in today's world of foodservice?
It is an ever-changing field, which means students in foodservice have to be able to adapt quickly to new trends and apply knowledge to many diverse situations.

Do you have mentor? How have they helped you?
Yes, Mr. Mark Edwards gave me insight throughout my internship in foodservice about how to be more successful in meal forecasting as well as giving me resources to help me complete my project.

What is your favorite meal?
I always enjoy homemade bread and split pea soup, but I also can't turn down pizza.

What companies have you worked at for internships?
I have worked at Kansas State University Housing and Dining
