Beth Moran is a 2019 IFMA Education Foundation scholarship recipient. She attends the Niagara University and is majoring in Food and Consumer Packaged Goods Marketing. Find out what she had to say when we asked her a few questions about her foodservice scholarship and future career.

What is your major & what made you decide on it?
I am enrolled in Niagara University's Food and Consumer Packaged Goods Marketing program. I chose this major because I discovered a passion for marketing upon attending Niagara University, and when I learned about all of the opportunities in the food industry today, I knew I wanted to be apart of a program that would set me up for success.

How has your scholarship enabled you to pursue a career in foodservice?
This scholarship will help me continue my education into my master's degree, where I can further develop my knowledge of today's food industry.

What was your first job in foodservice?
I recently had my first job experience in the foodservice industry through Rosina Food Products. I worked there as a marketing intern, where I used brand and category analysis tools to seek out gaps and growth opportunities within supermarket channels. I also created a new company process for product innovation and development.

What would you say is your "dream job" after you graduate?
After I graduate, I plan to pursue a career in marketing research for the means of new product development. Through my most recent internship experience, I learned a lot about new product innovation, and I hope to tie this knowledge with my interest in customer research in a future career path.

What have you learned that you will apply to a career in foodservice?
My education at Niagara University has taught me about all of the different aspects of marketing there are to pursue. Entering such a diverse field allows me the flexibility to find a career that centers around what I am most passionate about.

What are some of the challenges students like you face in today's world of foodservice?
I feel that one of the greatest challenges students face in regards to the foodservice industry today is a lack of awareness. Before joining my current program, I was under the impression that concentrating in Food and CPG would limit my opportunities in the marketing field. However, i have since learned that by specializing in this specific industry, I am greatly increasing my chances of working with one of the many food companies in the area.

Do you have a mentor? How have they helped you?
My advisors in the Food and CPG Marketing program have mentored me through every step of my experience so far. They've helped me learn about opportunities for me within the food industry, provided networking opportunities with different companies, and guided me through planning my future in the industry.

What is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal is Eggplant parmesan.

What companies have you worked at for internships?
I was a marketing intern at Rosina Food Products, Inc.
